A Relaxing Autumn Getaway
Who doesn’t love taking a drive to check out the Fall foliage? If you start out on the #2 highway, with Stewiacke as your destination, you’ll find just what you need.
In addition to the beautiful colours, you’ll see rolling hills, endless farmland, unique spots like Wicked Hops Hopyard, and so much more…
Once you arrive in Stewiacke, be sure to stop in for a coffee and a treat at Big River Café and spend some time strolling the many scenic trails in the area, including Stewiacke River Country Trail and the John Crawford Trail. If your four-legged friends are with you, be sure to visit the Barking Lot, located at the recreation fields as part of the River Country Trail. You can walk your dog off-leash in a fenced in area, including a separate section for smaller dogs.
After grabbing a quick lunch at one of the many options near Mastodon Ridge, at Exit 11, be sure to get in some shopping at the Stewiacke Gift Boutique and enjoy a local beverage at Coldstream Clear.
Be sure to book an end-of-day, relaxing spa treatment at the Abalone Retreat before having dinner off the vast, popular menu at Whistlers Pub, while enjoying some live entertainment.
And don’t forget to fill your car up with gas at Exit 11 on your way back out of town.

Choose Your Own Fall Family Adventure
You can pack all kinds of fun into a Fall family day trip to Stewiacke, Nova Scotia. Choose to start your day at one of the exciting parks throughout the area. From the newly renovated Mastodon Ridge park to the extensive playground, basketball court and trails at Dennis Park, to the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park, just five kilometres down the road.
Why not bring your sweaters and continue the adventure with a picnic lunch – with supplies from the local Foodland – at one of the many nearby parks. There are many trails to explore. You can choose to take a nature walk down the Fish Shack Trail, where you will see the confluence of the Shubenacadie and Stewiacke rivers, view eagles and see a tidal bore. Or you can explore the Stewiacke River Country Trail, the John Crawford Trail, or the trail at the Stewiacke River Park, located just outside of town.
If your timing is right, you can play a few holes at Fox Hollow Golf Course or, if you’d rather enjoy an indoor activity, check out the Stewiacke Branch Library.
There are lots of fast food options on your way out of town – Tim Hortons, KFC/ Taco Bell, Dairy Queen, Subway, or Robins Donuts will provide the perfect treat to the end of your busy day.
