Behind the Buzz

Meet Alicia

The woman behind the Buzz.

What can I say? I love this town. I’m not originally from Truro, but saying that it has won my heart is an understatement. So much so that I spend a lot of my time running this business whose sole focus is to showcase how great it is to live here!

Born and raised in Newfoundland, I completed my post-secondary education at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. After an amazing four years, I returned home after I received my degree to be able to work in a variety of fields. Then, I finally found my place in Tattooing! It’s a career that has afforded me an amazing life of traveling, networking, and connecting with people.

I became a resident of Colchester County in 2014, and now I can’t imagine my life anywhere else. From the vibrant business community to the sporting events and street parties, there are more events to cover than I can keep up with! You can usually find me anywhere there’s a delicious meal or sweet treat, and I would love it if you would come up to say hi!

Meet Tanya

Chief Operating Officer

I was born and raised in Truro and have lived in North River my whole life. After attending St. FX for a BA in English, followed by an International Business diploma at NSCC, I worked at various positions throughout Truro — CoRDA, Centennial Pool, the RECC, and My Home Mercantile. I have enjoyed the local businesses and organizations that I’ve had the pleasure of working for, and I believe that, as COO of Truro Buzz, I’ve truly found my home.

Working with a group of funny, intelligent and driven women is not only my DREAM JOB, it inspires me to be better every day. I am passionate about promoting Truro because I have lived and worked here my whole life, I have watched it grow, and want to show off all that it has to offer.

Meet Madison

Administrative Director

I was born in Alberta and grew up there until 2008 when we made the move to Nova Scotia. I then grew up in Pugwash, a small village in Cumberland County on the North Shore. I completed my post-secondary education at NSCC and went on to work and explore.

I have lived in Colchester County since 2019. Coming from growing up in a small village, I was very optimistic about the opportunities I was going to encounter here in Truro, NS.

I have always been passionate about being a part of a team, learning new things and helping others, and that is exactly what I get to do everyday being a part of Truro Buzz!

My most recent passion has been based around health and fitness. I am striving to become the healthiest version of myself, in all aspects physically and mentally! As a teenager I was involved in multiple team sports. After graduating high school and losing those team sports I found myself at a bit of a loss. That was until I was introduced to Martial Arts here in Truro, which sparked my fire again and led me to where I am now.

You can usually find me spending time with family, hiking, kickboxing, or snuggling my cats!
I look forward to all of the wonderful things we at Truro Buzz can do to help you and our community!

Meet Anna

My name is Anna and I am one of the worker bees at Truro Buzz! I’ve lived in Truro for my entire life, and I love it more and more each year as I continue to discover the uniqueness our community has to offer.

I’m currently in my 3rd year of my Bachelor of Business Administration degree at St. Francis Xavier University, which coincidentally, isn’t too far from home! I joined the Truro Buzz team in June 2021, and I have been lucky enough to work remotely with them while I’m away at school. I fell very quickly for the fantastic team dynamic that Alicia has created at the Buzz, and I love having a constant reason to be involved with the community, even from a distance. It’s funny, Truro didn’t really seem so significant to me until I left for the first time to go away to school; that’s when I realized how much I love it there. The small, yet strong knit community makes it so special, and I am so grateful to be able to call it home.

Meet Stephanie

Hi, I’m Stephanie MacKenzie and I was born and raised in Truro NS! I have a passion for seeing new businesses get started and helping them get off the ground from the startup through to the bookkeeping.  Being part of a team of amazing women who make this beautiful town of Truro even greater through Truro Buzz is a highlight.  I’ve been working with Alicia since her first tattoo at Rolling Sea back in 2015.  After 15 years in the accounting world, I transitioned my career to Facilities and Project Management for a day job at Dalhousie University and I run MAMack Management & Consulting in my spare time.

When I’m not running my business or planning and executing projects at the Dal AC Campus, I’m with my high school sweetheart, hubby Dave, and my two kids, Lex & Mariska running between gymnastics and hockey, counting down winter days till it’s beach time!

Meet Saffron

Hi I’m Saffron! I’m a 20 year old self-taught photographer, I started my photography business in 2019 called Saffron Morriz Photography! From 14 years old I always knew I had a huge passion for photography. For me, it’s something about having a vision in your head and creating it into a reality that you can show to people. Capturing timeless moments that people will cherish for a lifetime, to me, that’s absolutely incredible. Photography is my pride and joy.

In high school I completed in the Skills Canada National Competition for photography both 2018 and 2019, I placed 4th place and 2nd place in all of Canada! After I graduated, I decided to start a photography business based in Truro shooting family photos. With a little bit of hard work, practice and love, I shot 15 weddings this year with many more booked for the following years! It astonishes me that I’m already living my absolute dream job. I love to capture real connections in my photos, don’t be shy to be a little silly, laugh a little and be yourself during your session.
