Millbrook First Nation has entered into an agreement to construct and lease a new 3 storey office building to the Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (CMM) to expand the Power Centre throughout the coming year.
“We have been working collaboratively with CMM on the design of the building to meet their current and future needs,” says James Stevens, Director of Commercial Operations, Millbrook First Nations. “The just under 40,000 square foot building has a scheduled completion date of late 2022.”
The CMM functions as a tribal council, providing a wide variety of programs and services to its eight Mi’kmaq member communities located on mainland Nova Scotia. Through this new partnership with Millbrook First Nation, CMM will be able to continue to support their mission statement — “to proactively promote and assist Mi’kmaw communities’ initiatives toward self determination and enhancement of the community.”
In addition to this development, the retail and office complex on Stanley Johnson street is now fully leased and the community is pleased to announce that the new tenants include; Ulnooweg Development Group Inc, the Office of the Regional Chief (Assembly of First Nations Newfoundland and Nova Scotia region), The Good Sons Barbershop, Evvy’s Beauty Spa, and L’NU’K Clothing Co. There will be a grand opening of the retail and office complex in the latter part of October.
“We look forward to celebrating the Power Centre expansion with our community,” says Stevens. “After a challenging year, it will be refreshing to find reasons to safely gather and support our local businesses and organizations.”
