Finding my own dream job had a few twists and turns along the way. Especially when you consider I originally went to college to be a train conductor but that’s a story for another time! After going back to school to become a designer, I worked at a few different jobs in the industry. I began freelancing on the side and after years of doing both I went out on my own full time and Ben Brush Design (https://www.benbrushdesign.com/) was born.
Over the past eight years of running Ben Brush Design, I have been lucky enough work with tons of amazing businesses both locally and around the world. During that process I also discovered what an amazing ecosystem of startup businesses we have right here in our own region. Atlantic Canada really punches above its weight class when it comes to technology and innovation.
There are countless startups and tech companies doing ground-breaking work here. One reason these companies are able to thrive is the strong support systems and programs here that support them.
We have Volta (https://voltaeffect.com) here in Halifax offering coworking space and incubation programs to startup businesses.
There’s Ignite Atlantic (https://igniteatlantic.com/about/) offering the same in various locations across the province.
Newfoundland has Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship https://mce.mun.ca and there is great work being done by Planet Hatch https://www.planethatch.com/ in New Brunswick and that’s just to name a few of many!
All this support is fantastic, but I noticed one thing missing. I often have clients and friends tell me they’re hiring and ask me to share the opportunity with my network. I helped where I could, but there was no central hub to connect talent and opportunity in the region. After realizing this I saw an opportunity and built a solution. A job board focused on the tech and startup ecosystem here in Atlantic Canada.
