Classic Rentals, a trusted name in the Truro community, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The story of this local family-owned business is one of determination, community support, and continuous growth. Let’s take a closer look at how it all began and what the future holds for Classic Rentals.
Inception and Early Years
Classic Rentals opened its doors in May 2003 at the same location it still operates from today, but the story starts before that. It all began with Nancy Crosby’s father, Perry Brightman, who had experience in the rental industry working for a small local company. Eventually, that company was acquired by a larger international corporation, but the new business model didn’t cater to the needs of homeowners, small businesses, and contractors in the Truro area. Recognizing this gap in the market, Perry, along with Nancy’s mother Helen Brightman and her husband Randy Crosby, decided to seize the opportunity.
Initially, it was Perry and Randy who took the leap, leaving their jobs to start Classic Rentals. Helen juggled bookkeeping duties in the evenings while still working her day job. The need for a rental service tailored to the needs of the local community was evident, especially for smaller businesses. About a year into their journey, Helen joined the team full-time, and they gradually expanded their staff.
Generational Transition
Fast forward five years, and Nancy decided to leave her job and join the family business. From there, the business continued to evolve. It was approximately a decade ago when Nancy and her husband, Randy, purchased the business from Perry and Helen, marking a generational transition. Since then, Classic Rentals has experienced steady growth and now boasts seven full-time staff members, a summer student, and a casual administrative assistant who works behind the scenes.
The Vision for the Future
When asked about the future of Classic Rentals, Nancy shared an interesting perspective. The company’s approach has never been about grandiose plans. Instead, they prefer to adapt and grow organically, taking each day as it comes. Their vision for the future is simple: to continue providing valuable services to the Truro community and to remain a source of employment for local residents who, in turn, support the community they love.
Nancy emphasizes the importance of continually improving their services. They’ve been learning on the job and plan to keep learning. Rather than pursuing ambitious expansion goals, Classic Rentals is committed to understanding their customers better, listening to their needs, and striving to be better at what they do.
A Deep Connection with the Community
A significant aspect that sets Classic Rentals apart is its deep connection with the Truro community. The staff, many of whom grew up in the area, have strong personal connections with their customers. They not only provide rental services but also take a genuine interest in the lives of those they serve.
Classic Rentals’ journey from a small, locally-focused rental company to a beloved community institution is a testament to the power of recognizing and addressing unmet needs. Their commitment to the community, dedication to continuous improvement, and personal touch make them a standout success story. As they celebrate two decades of service, one can only imagine what the future holds for Classic Rentals. While they may not have grand expansion plans, their passion for delivering excellent service and their deep roots in the Truro community ensure that Classic Rentals will continue to be a vital part of the area for years to come.
